• Technology Strategy and Direction: The primary focus of the Technical Leader will be Data Center. This includes Cisco’s strategy with respect to enabling IaaS Clouds. Spam, Spam, Spam, and More Spam
According to IronPort's SenderBase, world's first and largest email traffic monitoring service, the volume of spam has been roughly doubling every year, with no end in sight. As of August 2007, the IronPort business unit measured an 18 percent month-over-month increase in spam volume. It is estimated that more than 90 percent of all email is spam. More than 80 percent of spam comes from infected “zombie” computers, typically in consumer broadband networks. As spam filters become more effective and more widely deployed, a spammer simply sends more messages with the hope that enough will get through spam filters to make the spammer’s business profitable.

Spam Gets Smarter
In addition to the brute-force tactic of doubling spam volumes year-over-year, spammers have adopted a variety of techniques to bypass traditional filters. Spammers have migrated from simple text messages to HTML messages to image-based spam. The latest variant is known as attachment spam, where spam messages are embedded into popular attachment types such as Adobe PDF or Microsoft Excel files. This poses additional burdens for spam filters because the average spam message size has increased from approximately 3 kilobytes Kbytes in 2005 to 40 kilobytes in 2007. Not only are the messages larger, but they also require much more computer processing at the perimeter to interpret the new attachments and distinguish spam from legitimate mail. The combination of exponential growth in message volumes coupled with larger messages and more required processing per message has caused many traditional anti-spam systems to struggle to keep up—these end users will see more spam getting past the filters and into their inbox, and may experience delays in sending and receiving mail.

The QA Technical Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the quality of IronPort’s Sec Apps products. Possessing strong whitebox testing experience, the QA Technical Engineer will be involved in the entire QA cycle from requirements evaluation, to test case development and execution, to product readiness, defect status, and test results reporting. The successful candidate will use knowledge of the software development lifecycle, use case definition, and testing tools and methodologies to ensure customer satisfaction with our initial and future releases. Requirements:

Responsibilities:

The Customer Support Engineer (CSE) provides highly technical support to our customers resolving customer issues and closing customer trouble tickets. The CSE's charter is to delight customers. The CSE will be responsible for ensuring that the customer relationship is managed through proactive customer communications, providing rapid response and guaranteeing estimated response times are communicated up front.

The Customer Engineer will routinely handle Tier 1-2 customer issues that arise. These issues often include product bugs, DNS issues, network configuration problems and assistance with complex product configurations, performance tuning and optimization, troubleshooting http scanning issues and training the customer on unfamiliar features. The Customer Support Engineer will help cover IronPort's 24 X 5 coverage times. The CSE will also provide off-hours coverage for critical customer issues during nights and weekends via PDA and cell phone.

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 25, 2007 — Cisco® today announced it has completed the acquisition of privately held IronPort Systems, Inc., the leading provider of e-mail and web security products that provides protection to businesses of all sizes – from small organizations to Fortune 1,000 firms – from spam, spyware, phishing, and other Internet security threats.

The acquisition, announced January 4, 2007, for $830 million in cash and stock, marks a significant step in Cisco's evolution as a leader in security and defines the future for information technology security. IronPort's products and technology enable Cisco to extend its Self-Defending Network strategy to now include Wide Traffic Inspection capabilities, ensuring a new approach that combines the depth of network-level security with the breadth of capabilities for inspecting e-mail, web and Instant Messaging traffic.
