Senior Business Strategy Manager for Smart Grid Business Unit

The Emerging Technologies Group (ETG) focuses on creating solutions in new and adjacent technology markets and is looking for high energy, high impact individuals who want to help shape Cisco’s future by building our next $1B business.

Smart Grid is a Business Unit (SGBU) being incubated in ETG, and we are currently seeking a talented team to help lead this incubation through to a significant business. Leveraging technology developed across many development groups across Cisco, SGBU will bring to market a networking solution specifically architected to address the needs of the next-generation of supply, transmission, and demand management of the utility industry.

Job Description:

The Smart Grid Senior Business Strategy Manager will be responsible for driving, facilitating and delivering key strategic initiatives, planning and special projects. Working very collaboratively with Business Development, Product Marketing, Sales/Channels and Smart Grid Solutions Unit, the Senior Business Strategy Manager will investigate existing or new Smart Grid market opportunities, playing a significant role in shaping the Smart Grid business strategy for Cisco and in taking the business from the early stages through the phase of “crossing the chasm”.


Functional Requirements & Skills:

•Drive targeted Smart Grid market research, business model analysis, market sizing, business case analysis, scenario planning, market entry recommendation, etc.
•Consolidate up-to-date market intelligence covering global markets (US/CA, Europe, Emerging Countries) working closely with our Corporate Marketing team
•Build and maintain business modeling/planning for each SG priority. Identify Cisco’s Total Addressable Market (TAM), our required investments to capture specific portions of our TAM, and projected revenues/margins
•Work very closely with Cisco teams in adjacent markets (Smart + Connected Community, Home Energy Management, Connected Buildings, Data Center, etc.) to align our business strategies and plans across the company
•Engage in acquisition due diligence. Contribute to driving business assessment working closely with Corp Dev and rest of SG Business Unit
•Every quarter, plan for SGBU review of our strategy and execution plans within Smart Grid Board in order to react to market/customer/technology dynamics. Create business cases for the top incremental opportunities in order to determine their relative priority


Experience and Qualifications:

•Solid experience in utility sector for 5 years (minimum)
•Proven track record in developing, refining and articulating business strategy
•Able to use data driven analysis to structure complex problems
•Able to facilitate/project manage cross-functional teams
•Able to establish trusting and influential relationships with key stakeholders
•Strong conceptual thinker and thought leader
•Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
•Preferred: experience in strategy/management consulting; MBA degree
