POSITION SUMMARY: NMTG Summary:
The Network Management Technology Group (NMTG) is responsible for defining and developing a rich set of Network Management platforms and applications across Cisco’s traditional market segments of Enterprise Commercial customers and Service Providers. NMTG consists of approximately 1100 full time employees and contractors in multiple locations (San Jose, Boxborough and Raleigh Durham, US; Glasgow, Scotland; Bangalore and Chennai, India; Monza, Italy) and a yearly budget of approx $50M. The CTO is instrumental in driving NMTG’s technology strategy.

Technical Leader II Role Summary:
The CTO of NMTG is responsible for the technology strategy and direction for NMTG. In addition to strategy, the CTO’s office will be involved in the development of solution architectures, technology investigations and the strategic engagement of industry standards bodies. These efforts will require very senior level architects and engineers to participate in the development of cross Cisco solution architectures for company priorities such as Data Center, Video, IP NGN, Cloud, Borderless Networks, Smart Grid etc. The Technical Leader must also be able to represent NMTG from a management architecture perspective on these various initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities

• Technology Strategy and Direction: The primary focus of the Technical Leader will be Data Center. This includes Cisco’s strategy with respect to enabling IaaS Clouds. The individual will play a leadership role in setting the management strategy and the management technology direction for NMTG in the Data Center. This will include both the embedded manageability components of the various DC products, as well as the management products.

• Solution Architectures: Cisco is transitioning its investment strategy from a point product approach to solution architectures. These solutions may require integrating products from across Cisco, third parties, and open source, as well as using professional services for customer integration requirements. The Technical Leader will participate as a DC management domain architect with the ability to understand all aspects of the solution as it pertains to the DC and be able to prescribe the end to end management architecture suitable for the particular solution space.

• Standards Support: The Technical Leader must be able to identify key standards activities that may present an opportunity or risk to Cisco in the Data Center. Participation in standards activities, or working with those directly involved will be an important part of the job.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE The successful Technical Leader candidate will be an innovative and seasoned leader with a proven record in DC management. The ideal candidate has very strong knowledge of a broad base of DC technologies including network, compute, storage and virtualization technologies. They will also have a deep understanding of resource management, provisioning and service assurance technologies, particularly as to how they relate to the highly dynamic and virtualized nature of IaaS clouds. The candidate must have demonstrated strong execution in a highly collaborative environment.

Evidence of this orientation will include notable product development success, and taking calculated risks in product direction and development that paid off and proved to be prescient moves. A leader who is comfortable with change.

Deep Technical Knowledge: The candidate must have a very deep and broad technical knowledge covering core Cisco DC technologies such as networking, compute, storage and the virtualization capabilities in each of these areas. They must also have a deep understanding of the relevant management and embedded management technologies and how these apply in IaaS clouds. A software development background is preferred.

Collaboration Skills: The candidate’s operating style will be characterized by an emphasis on collaboration and working through other internal and external organizations and individuals to achieve success – particularly in the context of a complex and global organization with multiple priorities. Evidence of these skills will include examples of business and product success that required the coordination of numerous parties for which the individual did not have direct control, yet they effectively engaged and influenced to gain commitment and action.

Communication Skills: The candidate will have good oral and written communication skills. The individual should have experience in public speaking and have published whitepapers, technical documents or other artifacts.
