    Cisco seeks a Hardware Engineer with specialized knowledge in select technologies. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated technical experience and a commitment to applying his or her expertise in the development of select products.     Participates on a project team of engineers involved in the specification, design, development and test of hardware, that may include any of the following list of responsibilities: Participates in defining the design and implementation processes and procedures. Responsible for board level complex architecture design. Writes board level functional and design specs and hardware manuals. Writes complete unit and integration test plans. Debugs complex board level problems. Performs complex board level unit and integration tests. Designs moderate complexity ASICs and FPGA. Designs board level diagnostics firmware. Resolves issues with CAD and Manufacturing Engineers in developing new boards. Designs board level simulation tests. Consults with in-house packaging and other compliance engineers during design process to ensure compliance requirements will be met. Interacts with customers as site coordinator in problem verification and support.

    Typically requires MSEE/CS combined with 3-4 years of related experience, or BSEE/CS combined with 4-7+ yrs related experience.

    In addition to HW Eng II, requires hands on experience with one or more of the following: Understand related products'' architecture. Understand competitive products. Ability to apply new technology independently. Ability to design multiple subsystem architecture. Ability to plan small projects. Ability to solve complex. problems involving multiple sub systems. Knowledge of design support, simulation, PCB layout and high speed switching/circuit analysis.
    Ability to widely apply networking and telecom principles, theories and field concepts to product development and possession of working knowledge of related disciplines. In addition to HW Eng III, requires hands on experience with one or more of the following:
    Hands-on experience with design and/or testing of IEEE eithernet i/f, PoE electrical interfaces, POTS, FXO, FXS analog interfaces. Solid knowledge of IEEE 802.3, 802.3af, TIA/ANSI analgo interrfaces is essential.
    Solid experience to characterize/qualify electrical interface and components. Work closely with development engineers to define specifications and resolve issues.
    Solid foundations of theory and test techniques of clock recovery, jitter/wander. expertise on electrical interfaces T3/E3, T1/E1, ISDN, analog line, PBX interfaces.

    Experience with design of LAN/WAN interfaces and digital systems. Experience performing board level digital logic design. Understanding of design specification and implementation of high-speed ASICs for next generation high-end switches and repeaters. Works under department strategy and direction. Translates department goals into own work assignments. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Tackles complex issues in creative ways. Problem solving requires originality and ingenuity using knowledge gained while specializing in field. Technical and Functional Knowledge. Teamwork.
