Technical Writer

Responsibilities:

    Cisco seeks a Technical Writer to conceptualize, research and write end user documentation for Cisco network security products. In addition to translating complex concepts into concise, user-friendly instructions, you will learn about the latest developments in networking technologies and be part of a dynamic team in the midst of a comprehensive migration to XML tools. The ideal candidate brings substantial technical knowledge, a background working with networks and toolsets, especially FrameMaker, and the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide variety of product groups. Develop, write, and revise technical documents and documentation sets according to established standards and under general supervision. Identify, plan for, and revise technical writing project requirements. Collaborate with a team of technical writers on task and project coordination. Organize and disseminate source information. Contribute to special projects. Work with editors and technical resources to improve document quality and usability.

    Typically requires BA/BS or equivalent experience, and 5-10 years of related experience.

    Preferred:
    Degree in Technical Writing, English, Journalism, or Computer Science. Excellent writing skills. Ability to identify the moderately complex information needs of a target audience and organize and develop documentation plan that addresses those needs. A fundamental understanding of the networking field and of technical writing. Excellent leadership/ teamwork skills. Successful completion of several major writing projects. General supervision, including: general direction on new assignments and little or no supervision on routine work. Technical Knowledge. Partnership. Business Knowledge. Manage Projects. Together with management, identifies project tasks and goals. Independently works towards project and task completion. Progress reviewed on an ongoing basis. Work is reviewed upon completion for accomplishment of objectives. Ability to exercise judgment, within generally defined procedures and practices, while guiding the efforts of group projects. Ability to solve a wide range of moderate to difficult problems related to the creation of documentation sets in creative and practical ways.
